BICC in Emergency Alert at Laniado

14/02/2008

A terrible traffic accident in Netanya resulted in five trauma patients needing simultaneous resuscitation at Laniado‘s overcrowded emergency room, the only facility in the area. But with only one trauma unit, "we had to work like a human conveyor belt; stabilize one patient immediately then bring in the second one," explained Dr. Galit Sibak, the head of Laniado's Vascular Department to the group. Mission delegates were left with a strong impression of Laniado's work but saw the occupancy rate had exacerbated the hospital's ability to treat the patients, with only 10 beds and limited facilities. Ongoing  terrorist alerts and news of rockets fired in Israel appear regularly on the ER's large LCD plasma screen to alert staff for possible attacks. One such alert appeared during the delegates' visit to Laniado.

Mark Ross, B-ICC's  Executive Director said, "The British-Israel Chamber of Commerce Mission to Israel 2008 was delighted to participate in a tour of the Laniado Hospital. Only after completing this exciting visit could we really understand how much good can be achieved with such small resources and how much more could be done with more support".

The BICC Mission also visited the new Dyna and Fala Weinstock Children's Emergency Room which opened recently thanks to the generosity of the UK-based Weinstock Family Trust.

Campaigns Director, Gaby Blauer said, "I'm extremely pleased over the collaboration with the BICC and we are looking forward to working closely with them on future initiatives."
