British donors bring improved medical care to Netanya's kids

07/06/2007

A $1.5 million donation from a UK family trust has funded a brand new paediatric emergency centre at Netanya's Laniado Hospital.

The centre was built by The Weinstock Family Trust, established to commemorate Fala and Dyna Weinstock, two of Israel Chaim Weinstock aunts who, like many of his family, died in the Holocaust. Fala's and Dyna's nephew, Israel Weinstock, from Elstree, now administers the fund and was present at the centre's opening.

Israel's Sanz-Klausenberger Rebbe, Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech Halberstam, son of the hospital's founder, was also attending, as was Dr. David Krazner, Mr. Israel Weinstock from the trust and Yael Simon, who heads Laniado's UK operation.

Before the new centre opened, children admitted to Laniado were taken to the emergency room in the main hospital, which is constantly overcrowded with only 10 cubicles. The new emergency room will house state-of-the-art technology and equipment needed to treat young people when they are first brought into the hospital in an emergency situation. There will eventually be a special children's ER room.

Mrs Simon said: "We are absolutely delighted that the Weinstock Trust has enabled us to complete this stage of the children's hospital project. The effect this will have on our ability to provide the very best care and medical attention to the people of Netanya and the area is incalculable."
