LIVING PROOF DINNER 07
June 2007 saw the Laniado UK inaugural dinner at the Conservatory in Chelsea. 350 people from across the community attended. £500,000 was raised for a new emergency room at the hospital.
The keynote speaker was Israel's ambassador to the UN, Mr. Dan Gillerman. In his speech Mr Gillerman said Laniado is "a tapestry of everything that is good and beautiful and excellent about Israel. A tapestry of excellence, of innovation, of creativity, of equality, of tolerance and above all compassion". The dinner also included a film showcasing the hospital's work and an auction of items such as a box at the Albert Hall to see Cirque du Soleil, VIP tickets to the masters golf tournament in Augusta and Grammy tickets.
The appeal was made by Dr Abdul Manam Hadj, head of Laniado's emergency room. Dr Hadj said: "there is no difference between Arab, Jews and Christians on the operating table, we give our best to help all people". The event was sponsored by Investec Private Bank and the Khalili family.
Speaking after the event, co-chairs of the dinner Robert Suss and Yoyo Allalouf said: "Laniado's founder Rabbi Yekutiel Halberstam, built a hospital were every life is dear and this principle continues to underpin its work to this day. With only 80% government funding, Laniado relies heavily on our continued financial support. We are delighted with the success of this, our inaugural fundraising dinner, the proceeds of which will go towards building a new state-of-the-art emergency room at the hospital."
Steve Heilbron from Investec Private Bank (co-sponsors of the dinner) said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring this event and greatly admire the impact that this charity has on helping thousands of people. Investec is a keen supporter of activity where individuals are empowered and motivated to make a positive impact on important issues and are pleased to be Laniado's partner on its inaugural event."
