Laniado UK Donors Endow Maternity Wing

NEW MATERNITY WING OPENS ITS DOORS

The new Mother and Baby Centre at Netanya’s Laniado Hospital has just seen the addition of The Phyllis and Bobby Nathan Maternity Wing. The Nathans were married during the 2nd World War and as they were childless, they dedicated themselves to their close family and working for charity.

Bobby was a member of Finchley JNF for over 50 years and was dedicated to the State of Israel. A successful businessman, his company was involved in shop fitting and included clients such as the Barbican, Madam Tussauds and the London Palladium. After their passing, it was found that the Nathans had left 90% of their estate to various charities, some named but the majority he left to the decisions of his executors.

Laniado’s Maternity Centre currently delivers 700 babies a month and the new facility will enable mothers to have respite care in an elegant and all encompassing complex with an expanded nursery and modern dining halls.

Melvyn Epstein, nephew of Phyllis and Bobby Nathan, attended the ceremony and after unveiling the main plaque, delivered a moving tribute to his family and friends. “The whole of the Laniado maternity area is very impressive including the design, which is well thought out for post-natal mothers and their needs. The dedication was very emotional and I am certain that if my uncle and aunt could look down, they would be very thrilled that we had chosen Laniado to honour their name.”
