Laniado's Oncology Centre
Our Oncology Centre at Laniado is headed by Dr Yael Merrick, an Internal Medicine Specialist (in clinical oncology and radiotherapy) with specialties in head and neck tumors and breast cancer. Her Head Nurse is Ms. Ziva Chanukah, MA.
The department has been running for the past 15 years, where patients receive chemotherapy, support treatment when needed and specialise in hospitalisation to stabilise patients throughout their treatment to provide consistency and care.
Dr Merrick and her staff take great care in providing a multi-disciplinary approach to tratement with all other departments at Lanaido and where Laniado does not specialise in certain types of radiation, she makes appointments and all arrangements for cancer patients who need to be sent to other hospitals.
150 patients per month are seen in this department of which, approximately 20-50 are chemo patients, and 3-6 are seen for follow up treatment. 25 new patients are seen per month and staff is on call 24 hours a day. All patients receive a personal cell phone number of the doctor and they can call them whenever they wish. The dedicated nursing staff help daily with all aspects of physical, mental, social and financial needs of each patient and their families. Our medical staff are proficient, sensitive and professional in their approach.
Laniado deals with breast cancer, cancer of the stomach, intestine, urinary tract, prostate cancer, lung cancer, gynaecological, in addition to treating chronic pain like mouth ulcers, the patient's mental state, and follow up.
Regular workshops that are held include:
- Laughter Therapy – a technique that helps with day-to-day coping mechanisms as often patients face feelings of anger, pressure, stress and fear. Despite being difficult to adapt the technique at the start, the body rapidly begins to release natural endorphins, which ease pain and alleviate the state of mind.
- Reflexology – held once a week, these sessions are led by a certified specialist
- Imagination workshops – these are one on one workshops once a week to help elevate the spirit and encourage the mind to overcome the physical state of being. These workshops follow the creed of the founder's principles in the correlation between the physical and spiritual well being of every patient.
- Art workshops - where patients are encouraged to express themselves and their ordeal through art. These are run by Ms Ziva Hanukah
