CAR HIRING TIPS

Driving in Israel is on the right side of the road.

Seat belts must be worn at all times by both front and back seats passengers.

Distances and speed limits are marked in kilometers.

Speed limit
- 50 Km/h (31 Miles) in urban areas
- 90 Km/h (56 Miles) on inter-city roads (Unless otherwise stated).

Road signs are normally featured in Hebrew, English and Arabic.

Car lights should be on at anytime throughout the day, between November and April.

Children under 12 years old are not allowed in the front seat (unless they are infants in a safety seat).

When hiring a car, drivers should be over 21 years old, holding a valid driving license(for most nationalities there is no need for International Driving License).

Crossing the border to Sinai or Jordan with hired cars is not allowed.

Before hiring a car check if your credit card company covers insurance, as some rental companies’ rates include insurance.

Hiring a Taxi

Netanya has a pretty effective taxi service. There are a lot of taxis and you can find them anywhere. The taxis themselvs are good and comfortable (mostly Mercedes, Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda). The price for any ride is 13 NIS, even if it will be only 50 meters or if it will be from cities one end to the other end, so its worth using it if you have to do a long ride.

Taking a 'Sherut'

These are big people carriers or vans (11 seats) that drive the same route as the buses around town (and also to Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem). They cost the same as the bus and usually they won't leave until full. This is a good way to get to places if you dont want to take the bus. You can usually find them across the street of central station.
Laniado costs more than £35 million a year to run, but only receives limited government funding.
